Little blue penguins – the smallest penguin species in the world
A group of little blue penguins (Eudyptula minor) – the smallest penguin species in the world, caught in their daily lives.
Did you know that these penguins are only about 30-33 cm tall – smaller than a wine bottle? Nevertheless, they are great swimmers and can swim at speeds of up to 6 km/h and dive up to 60 meters deep.
They are the only penguins with blue coloring on their backs – this is a natural camouflage defense – from above, their dark back blends with the ocean, and their white belly with the foam.
The little blue penguin is found only in Australia and New Zealand – this is a photo from a real Australian zoo!
