The deep red tubular flowers are arranged in dense clusters, gracefully cascading among the green foliage at Kew Gardens. Each flower is like a miniature bell, silently chiming for spring.

Interesting fact: Plants of the genus Agapetes (family Ericaceae) are native to the Himalayas and the humid mountain forests of Southeast Asia. Their bright red color has specifically evolved to attract hummingbirds and sunbirds as pollinators. These plants can grow epiphytically—on tree branches, drawing moisture from the moss and organic material around their roots. Kew Gardens is one of the few European botanical gardens that successfully cultivate these Himalayan rarities.
